Heritage Project Check-in

Hailey's great-x?-grandfather,
ship surgeon on  Lord Nelson's
HMS Victory at Trafalgar
SS10 students have been working on heritage research, trying to connect up their own cultural and/or personal background to some of the major themes in history and even some important events, people, and places. In fact, they are finding that it is all important because, for better or worse, our past helps define who we are now and what Canada is all about. Thanks to Courtney, Hailey & Melanie (here), Hailey (here), and Bethany (here) for sharing stories of their research-in-progress. I look forward to hearing more (hint, hint) and really look forward to EVERYONE in the two classes presenting in a couple of weeks. I've asked you to fill out check-in slips in class, but feel free to let me know here, too, how it's going. As always, don't leave info online you are not comfortable sharing - be websafe.

  1. I added another link to the Heritage Research Tools on the right. I used it last night to find a bunch of names from my wife's grandparents' family that I had not yet found elsewhere. From there, I ended up with details that led me to a site that shows cemeteries in Cape Breton, which led me to a photo of an old broken headstone half buried in the woods... my wife's great-great-grandfather. Up until now I had thought he was lost at sea but maybe not.

I just need to find out more information on the relations to the royal family of lady diana and the guthrie castle and the relationship to him. I am looking forward to presenting this project and i will be ready to go in a couple of weeks. I have been working hard and i have been worried that i was not going to make the deadline but i do not have that worry anymore. I am glad to say that i have been doing my work as usual

  16. -Kyla:

I am going to see my great aunt on friday to try and find out why her and her family came from Hungary and when. She apparently knows almost all of her family history and i think it will be a great learning experience!! :) Other than that my project is going quite well.

  18. I dont have much, since my family came to canada in 1637. So my project is going to be short and easy. The guy im doing is John White and there is nothing on the internet or any books. Me and my grandpa have tried to find stuff on him and his children, but there isnt anything on them.

  23. I have gathered a bunch of stories from the 1800's and from WWII, I can trace back to Henry the second. I am afraid that my ancestor's story from WWII might offends some people, because my great-great grandfather was a nazi... If telling that portion of my history would offend you, I would like to know... But everything else besides the time eras I mentioned is really boring or blank.
