Explaining Canada

You are on vacation in another country (you choose) and you make friends with someone who is interested in moving to Canada.  They ask you to tell them what Canada is all about and what they should expect.  What do you say? Leave a comment below with your response.

  1. I'm in Puerto Vallarta Mexico on vacation, and a local at the seven eleven asks me where I am from. I proceed to tell him I'm from Canada, and he tells me that he's interested in moving there and he asks me what Canada is all about. I tell him that there are not much sandy beaches, and it's basiclly cold all year around. I told him that unless you want a salt water ocean near you, its best to go to the West Coast like Vancouver for example. Even though there are no beaches or not much salt water bodies, the tall mountains a far and the thick mysterious forests with the fresh smell of spruce definetly make up for it. The people in Canada are very friendly and there are plenty of winter activities to keep you occupied in the cold months. For example you can go snowboarding, ice fishing, hiking, and snowmobiling. Even though Canada isn't the warmest place on Earth, its definetly the most beautiful, fresh vast country in the world.

  2. First of all I'm Mexican, but if someone tells me they want to live in Canada, I would say yes!. This are the reasons:
It is a very peaceful country, they have literally everything, the people there are really kind and grateful, if you're a hockey fan don't loss time and go. You can find really good jobs there, and they don't do racism, like in other countries, and if you are cold, there is no better coffee than Tim Hortons, for me this country should be the perfect country to live, is why i love Canada... 3. If I were to have a friend in Great Britain who wanted to move to Canada, I would describe it to her as the following. I would tell her that people are kind, generous, and helpful, and there is a community feel to each and every city, town, and village. Also, Canada is the land of opportunity, so if you work hard enough, you are most likely to succeed at whatever you are pursuing. Its cold in Canada, so you should adjust your wardrobe according to the weather, and make the most of the winter months, instead of moping around, stuck inside your house. And even if you do get stuck in your house due to the cold, do what Canadians do best, watch Hockey! I’d also tell her that Canada is a cultural mosaic, so she can keep her original identity, as well as embrace Canadianism.

  4. What’s Canada like? That’s a tough one. Well we’re not America! I suppose I could just tell you that Canada is all lumber jacks and moose. We all live in igloos and ride our polar bears to school. Popsicles? You mean cold maple syrup on a stick? You didn’t see the hockey game last night? Get oot. I could tell you all that and have you believe all the stereo types and move on with life but I’d rather tell you what Canada is really like. Canada is the 2nd largest country in the world and for the most part it is filled with the most polite people ever. We have cold winters and a Tim Horton’s on every corner for those really cold days. You’d probably get shunned if you walked into a hockey game with a Starbucks cup but you wouldn’t get shunned if you wanted a same sex marriage and I love that. But for me personally, I see being Canadian as more of a feeling than anything. Even if I’m on another continent I still know I’m from the best country in the world. We don’t have nearly as much economic problems as the states. Although we aren’t exactly the peace keepers we used to be, I feel just that much safer knowing that guns aren’t legal here. It’s hard to say exactly what Canada is but the one thing I can say with confidence is that I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.

  5. On my vacation in London , i met a fella who was thinking about visiting or even moving to Canada . so this is what i told him to expect. When you come to Canada you can stay south and enjoy some amazing days with sun, rain , or even both at the same time , or you can go north and enjoy some snow. There are also places in Canada were you can have all the seasons! We have amazing land up here with a ton lakes and beautiful mountain ranges. With rural countryside or busy cities Canada can provide what you fancy.

  6. I would tell my Italian friend of all the freedom we have in Canada and the open space to live in. Immigration is accepted in Canada so he would be welcomed and treated fairly by everyone. Canada has great hospitality and he would be safe. He would have to learn English or French depending on which part of Canada he wants to move to, but it would definitely be worth being able to live in Canada. For me, the best part of Canada is the freedom and large diversity in our beautiful landscapes. There is always something to do in Canada and life is generally easy to live. I have lived in Canada my whole life and there is no other place in the world that I would want to live. I hope that he would want to join me in my home country.

  7. On my trip to Australia I met a friend who was wavering on whether or not they wanted to move to Canada. I told them Canada is a beautiful place to live and because you already speak English you won't have to much trouble with language change, just remember to say "eh". If you're looking for a new home in Canada you could live on the beautiful mountain tops, or by the ocean, on a river or in a cabin in the woods. The people in Canada are also all very friendly and polite. If you're want a snack poutine is always a good choice. There are hockey games almost everyday, and good beers to share with friends, if you're over 19 that is. You should expect a lot of snow and cold weather for a lot of the year, but when summer comes it's long warm days and beautiful sunsets. Work in Canada isn't hard to find, whether you wish to work in a mine, or on the oil patch, maybe you prefer something with people like a doctor or nurse. You have so many opportunities to expand your life and better your life style if you move to Canada

  8. From my experiences in Canada I think that Canada is a great place to live. Canada has a wide variety of climates that range across the country from cold and snowy to warm during the year as well as hot in the summer. Canada is a generally nice and safe place to raise a family and has the freedom of speech as well as the right to safely practice a religion or openly state your sexuality. Canada is not overly populated and has a lot on immigration which results in a wide variety of cultures throughout the country. You also have the right to vote and protest your opinions. Canada also has a fairly stable economy so there are job opportunities. I think Canada is a really nice place to live.

  9. From my experiences in life so far, I think Canada is a great place to live. There’s a diverse climate and in most places a lot of geography so you’re not going to be over crowded. It’s a safe place to live and raise a family if that’s what you want. But you have the freedom to choose if you want to have a family or if you even want to be married at all. You can safely practice your religion or be open about your sexuality. You have the right to vote or protest peacefully. Some of the stereo types are true depending on who you are and what you like and believe. The economy of Canada is fairly stable and job opportunities are there. And that’s what it’s like to be Canadian. The best way to describe Canada is that it’s like a mosaic, one work of art with many different pieces.

While vacationing in Australia, I talk to a friend who is interested in living in Canada. I would start off by telling them what it means to be Canadian which is to be thankful and proud of the country we live in. Canada is special because we have such vast open spaces and tons of room for development. I’m pretty sure everyone here believes in big foot and that Tim Hortons is a religion. We really value our natural resources and wildlife, as well as our ever expanding diversity. There really isn’t much Canada needs to change besides how anxious we are to get resources like oil out of the ground as fast as we can and sell them, and I believe we rely too heavily on vehicle transportation and we have next to no public transit by rail. Canada can’t really be referred to as all the same thing because there are different stereotypes that vary from coast to coast, although it’s important to be a unified nation, we all can’t be the same. There’s outstanding hospitality as mostly everyone is nice here, outstanding health care, and lots of freedom.

  11. What is so special about Canada? There are many reasons to follow this question. For one Canada has lots of fresh water and plenty of trees. It has various terrains such as foothills, mountains and flat lands. They are not in lots of debt like the U.S. is. What do you think when you hear the word “Canada”? Most people think the beaver, Tim Hortons , a-boot and eh. But really there is much more that makes Canada Canada. There are 36 million people currently living in 9.98 million square hectors. This is the country of thee land and the free. We have very nice people and there is lots of cultural diversity. Also Canada has great health care and people are expected to live longer. There is lots of infrastructure aswell such as trains, buildings, airports, and paved roads. Its an overall great place to live.

  12. I am vacationing in India. India is very different from Canada in many ways. From Haida Gwaii and Vancouver on the west coast, to Quebec and Newfoundland on the east coast you will see something totally different no matter where you go. Our national languages are English and French so it will be a lot easier if you can speak a little of these languages. We allow in many immigrants so there will be no problem with that. A lot of Canada’s population consists of immigrants, without them Canada would become very small. Unlike India, Canada’s population is tiny. We have so much room but barely any of it is vacant to cities and towns. So your life will be a lot more easy going then in India. In Canada we are democratic, we have the right to express and make decisions that we want. Depending on what you are looking for, Canada’s climates are quite diverse. From cold, snowy winters to dry, hot summers we have a variety of climates that may be right for you. Canada is a beautiful country, and from what I have experienced, a great place to live!

  13. I was in cuba walking the streets and I started talking to a street vender. We started to talk about where we live and what its like. I told him Canada was the greatest place in the world especially british Columbia because of the environment. We have all sorts of climates and the range of activities is endless. I told him if he were to move to Canada is living standards would increase greatly. Even if he was poor in Canada it would be a better living than being poor in cuba. The health care is better along with financial support from the government.

  14. Canada is a pretty cool place. Get it? Cause it snows.
We have trees, so that’s always a plus. Depending on where you are, it can be quiet and peaceful, or it can be loud and busy. People are just as nice as anywhere else. There’s maple syrup though, good stuff. I’d recommend going to somewhere away from a city, they’re not very entertaining. West Edmonton Mall is pretty cool actually, roller coasters and stuff. I don’t really have much to say about Canada, I live here, check it out.

  15. Canada is an amazing place to live with a variety of environments in it. From the flat prairies to the Rocky Mountains, it is something you need to see to believe. People from all corners of the world visit and reside in our great nation, making up most of our population growth. We accept these immigrants with open arms. Our education system is top-notch, with only 1% of the population being illiterate. At the end of the day, however, you need to visit Canada for yourself to experience it.

  16. I would tell them to go experience Canada for themselves. People are generally nice and enjoy maple syrup. We ride moose everywhere we go if there are no dogsleds available. Pet beavers are a must have if you live in Canada. Housing is an amazing DIY project, as you can design your igloo any way you want.

  17. I am in Japan and I meet a girl who wants to get out of her country. I tell her about Canada and the beautiful views and all the space we have. I tell her how we get all four seasons. The summers are really hot and the winter gets tons of snow. I tell her about all the options for schooling we have and how there’s public or private or boarding. I tell her about all the cool shopping and sight seeing there is. I tell her about all the job options. I tell her about how a hockey game feels like it bring the whole country together because we are all so passionate. I tell her about how the population is very friendly and kind. I tell her how Canada is known to be very polite. I say we’re multicultural but have the main languages of English and French. I tell her about how clean our water is and how we have some of the best water. I say every Canadian is proud to be Canadian and they wouldn’t want to be anybody else.

  18. I am vacationing in Costa Rica. Costa Rica is very different from Canada. Costa Rica is one eight the size of Canada, population wise. Canada has a much larger landmass than Costa Rica and most other countries in the world. If someone asked my what Canada was like I would tell him or her that there are four seasons, summer, autumn, winter and spring. There are two national languages, English and French. French is pretty close to Spanish so they wouldn’t have a hard time communicating. There are a lot of job opportunities for them here too. Because Canada has such a big landmass every province is so different and unique from the rest. Canada is a great and safe place to live.

  19. Canada is the most northern county in North America. It has massive size but not a very big population for how big it is. It has a variety of different landscapes; mountains, forests, beaches, prairie, and tundra. In the winter it gets lots of snow. We speak two different languages: English and French. There’s lots of rivers and lakes. And not as many people say “eh” as you think. -Pierson
