The Earth Is Full-Ned Talk
ReplyDeleteThis talk talked about how our earth is becoming over populated and the results of it and what will happen if it continues to grow larger. He praises that what we do everyday can effect our home, our country and our world. He states that everything that we've done in our lives effect our climate, for example, he says that in 2012 we have had the 3 record hottest days in a row. He mentions the ice melting in the arctic. He shows us how our land is coming over populated with people and the amount of land we use to what we should be using. He says that the resources we consume for jobs and industry but it plays a toll on us,such as air pollution and resources becoming more scares.I think we use to much land and resources then whats needed. If we go this rate our land will be sucked dry from oil and there will be fewer trees because they've been cut down for industry. I believe that what he says is true, we are the reason why our land is becoming how it is, we are the reason why we have hotter days and colder days ever recorded. We are responsible for our actions and the impact it has on our planet earth. If we slow down on forest and oil and preserve it and make it last we will be better off in the long term. Instead of investing money in oil and mining, We should invest it into a plan on how to reduce our use of resources but still produce the same amount of products. Our industry relies on mining forestry economy etc but we can still find ways to help reduce and reuse what we have to further our economy and our industry.

The main idea of the Ted Talk that I watched was about how people view clouds. Most of the time when people think or talk about clouds they think of it as a negative thing. Clouds aren't a negative thing though, there are many different designs and shape that people can see when they use their imagination. Peoples lives a so busy even when they're at home and just on their phones. Phones make people busy, people are on social media which they update social statuses, open emails and reply, or text messaging. Your phones are not a way of relaxing and doing nothing, laying on your back and looking at the sky would be the definition of being relaxed and doing nothing. I agree that by most people clouds are view as something negative. My personal opinion on clouds is that they aren't negative I find them interesting and I have cloud watched before. Cloud watching and picking out different shapes is really fun and can be funny when your with friends or family.

The Ted talk that i watched was focused on how fossilized deep sea coral can be used to understand climate change. The scientist uses uranium to anilize the fossilized coral. they found that by anilizing the coral they could see seasonal changes that occurred over the last 4000 years. they found that sometime over the last 20000 year an event occurred that allowed more carbon to be transferred from the deep sea to the atmosphere and that this helped raise the Earth's temperature and melt the northern ice.
ReplyDeleteThe Ted talk I watched was about four ways we can avoid a catastrophic drought. The four ways were harvesting storm and rainwater, reusing water, water conservation and seawater desalination. If we harvested storm and rain water we would have a significant increase in our water supply. We could harvest it by capturing it and letting it percolate into the ground. The only challenge we face with this one collecting the water, cleaning it, and then storing it underground. What they meant by reusing water was reusing sewage water. They came up with a two stage advance treatment process to clean the water. The only thing that is a problem is that it is expensive to build plants to clean the water. But by doing this we would increase our water supply by 40%. The third way was water conservation. Half of our water use happens outdoors. We could reduce this by having soil moisture detectors and smart irrigation controllers for our landscapes. This would reduce our water use by 50% and increase the water supply by 25%. The fourth way was sea desalination. The thing about this one is that it is energy intensive but in the past two decades they have been able to decrease the amount of energy it requires. With these sources we can move away from our dependence on imported water. They want to create a water supply that comes from local sources and leaves more water in the environment for fish and food. I thought these ideas were great and we start putting them into use right away.

I watched the Ted talk on what it means to be a global citizen. Many people are concerned about climate change and poverty but very few make a step forward to help. It doesn't take much to make an effort and in combination with may other global citizens, you can help your government increase their efforts and make actions to help end climate change and poverty. Your effort in becoming a global citizen can and will help put an end to poverty and climate change. I believe it is important to get out into the world, see the problems the world is facing, and make an effort to help. The more global citizens, the faster these problems we face will disappear. We should all make an effort to not only help but make the public aware of these issues. One person can make an impact on thousands of people, imagine how many people 1000 global citizens could impact. Imagine how much help the poorer countries would receive, how great we could change our climate change problems, and the impact we could have on our governments decisions and assistance to these problems.

The Ted Talk I watched was called Earth, Appreciated. I learned that we use three times more oil then we need. Often time we don't want to believe the tragedy that we know to be true. As humans we spend too much time and money on landscaping and for personal benefit then helping our environment.

I watched the Ted Talk "Earth, appreciated". I learned that people do not want to believe how much resources we consume and that the earth cannot handle this much consumption so quickly, farming to much is damaging the soils and to much oil consumption is polluting the world way to quickly. -Josh
ReplyDeleteI watched the Ted Talk "Earth, Appreciated", or more specifically, "A Wide-Angle View of Fragile Earth". The main idea of this talk was that we need to start believing what we already know about the planet. We use 3 times more oil than we find every year. The coral reef in New Caladonia could be 100% wiped out by 2050. The thickness of the arctic has decreased 40% since 1960. In 100 years, all of the mountain glaciers will be gone. Each year, we lose 50,000 square miles of forests in deforestation. These are just a few examples of things we know, yet refuse to believe. If we started to believe these things were true, and face the fact that us as humans are endangering ourselves, we might start doing something about it. We know what we are doing to our planet, and we know how to fix it, but of course we won't until we believe what we already know.

DeleteThe ted talk i watched was focused on how important it is that we start to protect our oceans.Sylvia Earle talked about how important the ocean is to human life. It is where we get a great portion of our oxygen, it is important for the Nitrogen and Carbon cycles and is also a huge food source, but since we do not take care of it or give the natural systems time to grow or replenish themselves that we are in danger of losing many of those resources. The coral reefs have started to die due to the level of acidity rising and killing the oxygen producing Plankton. We are taking lots of ocean plants which takes away sources of food for many marine animals. This next year is the most important in terms of helping the Arctic and Antarctic region with the melting ice which could be fatal to wildlife there. She is trying to make sure everyone understands that we neglect the ocean due to its enormous size but that without all of the things in the ocean that make it so extraordinary, it wont be able to provide for us all the things we take for granted from it. I agree with these ideas and i too believe that humans need to start doing more, not only for the ocean but for the rest of earths resources or else we could be in a lot of trouble in the next decade. - Ciara
ReplyDeleteI watched the ted talk "Earth Appreciated: Hidden Miracles of the Natural World." and it really opened my eyes on what we cannot see. There are such beautiful things happening in this world microscopicly that we don't notice. I'm no expert but if climate change kept going on, what would happen to these microscopic miracles? I think a lot in this world is really taken for granted, like how we have good weather and don't realize that it is in fact changing for the worse. People need to understand that if we don't take care of our planet, it may be scarred for future generations on this planet to come.

This earth is done, no amount of climate change talks and movements will ever change the fact that it is all going to end in 30 or 40 years. its terrible that people cant even preserve the planet that is the only reason they are alive. its destroyed and there is no going back Graham
ReplyDeleteI agree with Graham, we've already waited too long before trying to do anything about saving our Earth, we have destroyed it and we haven't even been here for that long. Not to mention the nuclear meltdown explosion in Japan a few years ago, dumping tons of radiation into the ocean killing loads of fish and animals. Or the massive Landfills full or garbage, in what way did they think that would be good for the planet? - Jordan
