Heritage Project feedback

What an amazing couple of weeks we've had experiencing presentations from SS10 students on their Heritage Inquiry they've been conducting off and on over the last few months.  I invite this group of students to leave a brief summary of what they did for the Heritage Connections project.  Use the comment button below to leave your feedback.

  1. I researched for family trees, family crests, meanings of last names, birth dates, death certificates, siblings, and basically any information that would be interesting. I gathered as many pictures or physical heirlooms that I could find to make my presentation interesting, I even brought food from my culture. Everything that I learned was new to me, and some of the information that I found out was very surprising. The benefit of doing this project was huge to me because I got to learn about my roots (Thai, French, Welsh, German, ect.) I also researched for any dates my ancestors came to Canada, also how and why. From interviews by my grandparents and parents, I learned about many interesting and cool stories about when they were younger or what they did. Doing this project has definitely changed my understanding of my family.

  2. I researched ancient artifacts and got heir looms from my grandmother so i could pass them around my class. I value this project because I got to learn about my ancestry and who I am. I've learned traditional dances and stories that have been passed down to me. The women in my family have been inspirational to me, even though I didn't get to meet all of them. I learned where my family comes from and how they got to where they are today. I'm intrigued to learn even more about my ancestors and my backround on both sides of my family.

  3. When I research information for my heritage project I interviewed me Great Grandma, Grandma, and Grandpa on my moms side, and my vavo (Great grandpa), Grandpa and Grandma on my dads side. before doing the heritage project I didn't know much about my family history. I learned that my grandpa and his family lived though a volcano eruption in Portugal. I also learned that me great grandpa came to Canada separate from his family to find work and a house giving his family a better lifestyle. This project helped me gain knowledge about my families history and it drew me closer to my grandparents. This has made me thankful for what my family has done to give me a richer and safer lifestyle compared to what they had when they were younger.

  4. By doing this Heritage Connections Project, I learned how interesting some of the little things about my family are. I learned that i come from a famous and very wealthy family. I learned that my family survived some very hard things and if they hadn't, I would not be here today This project has made me very passionate about putting together lots of interesting information about my family. I found out the things my family had to go through and all the famous legends we learn about that my ancestors met. The benefit I got from doing this project is learning more about my family and it has encouraged me to want to see the mansion in Victoria where my ancestors grew up and lived in. This project was a really awesome thing for me and I really enjoyed every minute of it.

  5. We learned a lot of new information about our ancestors and how our families came to be in Canada. We also found out about their struggles and different things they had to over on their journeys. This project showed us what different countries our families came from and how different their lives were compared to ours nowadays. We learned about different traditions that our families have and how those traditions came to be. Lots of the information we came across was knew and surprising to us, like who we were related to that may or may not have made a big impact in history and who our ancestors had ties with. We are happy that we got the chance to do this project because we feel like we are able to share and pass down these stories and information to our families and friends in the future.

  6. The heritage project taught me a lot about my family and myself. I learned many new things such as where I came from, the role my family played in history and family traditions that have been passed down from generations. It was a fun and exciting experience. I also learned my other classmates heritage and some even brought in food to share. I hope you enjoy the project as much as I did.
